Devon! Hi! As a longtime friend of the brand, we’re so excited to have you as our July PAPER WOMAN.
Your entrepreneurial journey has always inspired us. From Co-founding Blo Dry Bar (and exiting), to starting Sphere, an uber-like platform and ecosytem delivering coaching for personal and professional development, we can only imagine how much your style has evolved.
How are your babies (not really babies anymore, ah!)? Your kids are beyond stylish, how has being a mom shaped your style?
Oh gosh. You are right. While they'll always be 'my babies'...they have totally grown into these immensely spirited-beings who take my breath away daily. My daughter Clooney, for her uncanny sense of self and unrelenting courage to follow that call (already at 8 years old) and Rozen my son, who is 10, for his 'lion heart', generosity and devotion, loving kindness no matter what comes his way. And yes, they are stylish! Ha! Especially Clu who hasn't let me put an outfit together for her since she was 2. For me being their mama has infused play into my style. What I wear needs to support the way I move organically. If I can't play in it, it ain't for me. I'm never going to say, "Oh I can't because I don't want to ruin my outfit". I want to say, "Bring it on, baby!"
What do you do to keep yourself feeling grounded with your busy schedule?
I have learned to say no to lots. There is something very radical about that in the energy field...because the things I say yes to become VERY BIG YESSES. That creates a feeling, a presence for me that is very deliberate, connected and motivating.
What is one life hack for busy women like yourself that you rely on?
Lately, 4L of water a day, keeps me feeling pure in my mind and body.
Lastly, what is one style trend you are loving right now and one you don’t really care for?
I don't think the perma-youth trend is helpful to the collective conscience. In fact, I have a private Pinterest board dedicated to aging with style and dignity. Silver babes are rad. It will be fun to be one, one day. I am not trend driven at all, but I like when I see something around me that strikes a cord or evokes a positive memory. I was introduced to Issey Miyake's design as a very young child. I think I inherited my first pieces from my mum when I was about 16, and I love that east-meets-west look. Those relaxed origami-like pleats are having another moment of appreciation. It's an aesthetic that spans beautifully across ages and body types. While everything right now seems to conform to hyper-sexuality. I like that it says something different.
