October is dedicated to Women’s History Month, and we are taking the time to celebrate the women that came before us. We recognize the women around us and the women we are today, and we look forward to the generations of women that follow.
We used this month to reflect on ourselves, and our brand. Paper Label is a women-owned, women-created, and women led company. Which means wine during happy hour team meetings, and an office-wide email when Pantone created a colour for menstruation: Period Blood. Working in a women-led company leads to discussions surrounding our first relationships, if we should be taking collagen, and how we parent our children. At Paper Label, we get to engage in a workplace where women’s most common personality traits (empathy, communication, organization) are highlighted, appreciated, and used as our superpower.
Our Paper Label collections are dedicated to and made for women. We fit all our pieces to models of diverse sizes to ensure the fit works for a wide range of body types. We understand each woman and the way she lives her life is unique, so we create all our pieces with that in the forefront of our design process. We want women to feel comfortable and look great, or as we like to say, feel comfort without compromise.
When Paper Label began, it was created to provide women loungewear that they could wear anywhere. It was to ensure women felt comfortable in any situation they found themselves in. Paper Label was further inspired by the opportunity to give back, and the opportunity to create ethically conscious clothing. We are proud to say that the passions that ignited Paper Label as a brand are still the ribbon tying it (and us) all together.
In honour of Women’s History Month, we have decided to put together our favourite fashion quotes spoken by women. Some quotes made us say “omg yes”, others made us laugh, and others drew attention to the wonderful relationship women have, and will always have, with fashion.
Clothes aren’t going to change the world. The women who wear them will.
– Anne Klein
Playing dress-up begins at age five and never truly ends.
—Kate Spade
I like my money right where I can see it: Hanging in my closet.
– Carrie Bradshaw
If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion.
– Michelle Obama
Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys, they’d just walk around naked at all times.
—Betsey Johnson
I may be a beginner at somethings, but I’ve got a black belt in shopping.
– Phyllis Nefler
Whoever said that money can’t buy happiness, simply didn’t know where to go shopping.
– Bo Derek
I design for the woman who loves being a woman.
– Diane von Furstenberg
When a woman says, ‘I have nothing to wear!’, what she really means is, ‘There’s nothing here for who I’m supposed to be today.’
– Caitlin Moran
I am anti-pants.
– Lena Dunham
A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.
– Vera Wang
A woman's dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.
—Sophia Loren
Fashion has always been my defense mechanism.
—Rihanna
Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There's no how-to road map to style. It's about self expression and, above all, attitude.
—Iris Apfel
I think our bodies are beautiful, and I think celebrating them and being comfortable in them—no matter what age you are—is important. There shouldn't be any kind of shame or discomfort around it.
—Jennifer Aniston
Happy Women’s History Month. To the women before us, the women we are, and all future generations.
