6 Small Businesses to Support in Vancouver BC

6 Small Businesses to Support in Vancouver BC

PAPER LABEL is run by a small but mighty team of 9 womenEveryone at the office works hard in their individual positions, as well as collaboratively, to maintain and build the brand.  We care about each other, and the company we create together behind the scenes.  We know first-hand the amount of commitment and dedication it takes to arrive where we are today and reach the goals we have in place.

On this small business Saturday, we would like to highlight a few of the local companies that we know and work closely with. Each of the following businesses are passionate about what they do, they take time to connect with those who support them, and they are an important piece of this Canadian economic pie.

1. The Polygon Gallery - Annual Holiday Shop

The Polygon Gallery's Holiday Shop is an annual tradition which features an all-Canadian lineup of mostly local, women-led, BIPOC makers and creatives. Hosted by Little Mountain With dozens of vendors, this Pop-Up is the go-to destination for sustainably minded products by sought-after makers this holiday season. On now until Dec. 24, make sure you drop by in person and check out the complete maker’s line-up online too.

2. Beyoutiful Foundation

We recently learned about a truly awe-inspiring charity, when its founder, Taylor Hui modelled for us in our Spring/Summer 23 Collection.  The Beyoutiful Foundation is a registered Canadian Charity with a mission to instil the value of self-worth and self-love in young girls ages 8-14 years, inspiring them to build confidence through acts of passion kindness, community, and connection. Beyoutiful works directly with diverse communities throughout Canada, providing a safe and empowering environment that encourages girls to develop a better understanding of their self-worth and build lasting friendships. They have implemented many programs and events at recreation centers, community facilities, and elementary schools, offering both after school and evening classes as well as online workshops. Topics include, but are not limited to, positive body image, media literacy, mental health, bullying, leadership, artistic expression, and addressing key steps towards setting achievable goals. To date, the Beayoutiful Foundation has positively impacted over 2,500 girls. We stand behind Beyoutiful’s initiatives and encourage you to donate, spread the word, sponsor and volunteer if applicable.

3. Supercrush is a mom-and-daughter-founded and owned Vancouver-based hair accessories brand. Back in 2018, the duo started making their own hair accessories because they couldn’t find what they were looking for on the market. With the mission to make bad hair days a thing of the past, they have seen their company grow stronger year after year. By using high-quality materials (many of which are hand-made in Vancouver), with a focus on eco-responsibility, they stand out in the sea of competitors. Not to mention their ongoing donations to charities supporting women in need. You will be sure to find us sporting these accessories at the PAPER LABEL office and in our campaigns

4. Malvados
PAPER LABEL aligns in brand values with like-minded apparel company Malvados. Their pieces blur the lines between loungewear and everyday wear with fashion-forward styles that remain both timeless and versatile at their core.  Malvados is a woman-owned, small business based in Vancouver, with a focus on giving back, community and sustainability. We especially love their lounge collection of cozy slippers for Fall and look forward to pairing our Spring/Summer Collection with Malvados Sandals
5.The Right Shoe

It's important to remember the small shoe shops when looking for new treads. Since 1991, The Right Shoe has been known as the local experts when it comes to getting you the right advice, the right fit and into the right shoe. Not only do they carry a wide assortment of running and hiking shoes, but they are a go-to when we are styling our look books and campaigns. With brands such as Birkenstocks and New Balance, they are always on-trend with elevated athleisure and normcore styles. You can find them in Kitsilano Vancouver, and online.

6.Kokomo

If there’s one thing that makes our world go round in the PAPER LABEL office, it’s delicious (and healthy) food. Shout-out to our favourite order-in lunch spot, Kokomo. Their mission is to bring energy and warmth to your daily life through fresh, nourishing, plant-based bowls and if you choose to dine-in, their sun-filled space is ready for you. We all especially love the Beet Poke Macro Bowl and look forward to our team lunch meetings.
